Opportunities occurred to me just in time. Almost immediately right after my final exam, I received this job opportunity to work in Macau with a package that a fresh graduate will never get if I were to stay and work in Malaysia. How can I resist? Went for the interview and to my surprise, it was so smooth that it took me just a month to get emotionally ready before I leave my home country for the first time!
Although I must admit that I am lucky to get my first job at the overseas, working life is really hard here. Not to mention the amount of time for me to get adapted to a total new environment. Homesick hits me terribly bad to the extent that crying was one of my rituals on my first few weeks of being away from my family, friends and my beloved dogs. What was I thinking when I've decided to move to China (I can't read and understand Mandarin)?!
I gave up the easy life I had back in Malaysia. Used to be able to drive a reasonably nice car, with all expenses paid for, and yes, shopping is part of the list. Now in Macau, I've to depend on the public transportation, spend my own hard-earned money, no one is there to provide me food, company and emotional comfort when I need to.
But then again, I am glad that I've made the decision of coming to Macau by myself. As the saying goes, no experience is a bad one. Well, the most significant gain that I've gotten after just a month of relocation is probably my drastic improve in understanding Mandarin =)
Just pass by your blog by chance. Yes, it's a rara opportunity to get a job in Macau or Hong Kong, the gateway to China. I have few friends been through that stage, and now they have settled in HK/Macau.
